Road Safety
Improving safety on Coopersale Common
Speeding along Coopersale Common is one of the major concerns for villagers. Since June 2020 we have been in contact with local town councillors and our local highways liaison officer to find more permanent solutions to make this safer. This is a long process and we are yet to see any real results.
We were very disappointed that after a speed survey conducted in 2023, Essex County Council deemed there was no speeding issue in our village. The speed survey monitors vehicle speeds over a prolonged period of time, then takes the average speed to determine if there is a problem or not. For many of us who cross or travel along Coopersale Common, does not accurately reflect the reality in Coopersale.
Local residents continue to contact local councillors without success or response. We need to unite to make change. Support the road safety campaign by joining Coopersale Community.

Drive slowly and safely
The best way to ensure our roads are safer is for us to act socially responsible. Please drive 30 mph (or slower) and be aware of pedestrians and wildlife.
Join the Community Speed Watch
Take direct action! Epping Forest District Council is always looking for volunteers to join Community Speed Watch teams. Volunteer training now available.
Email Councillor Janet Whitehouse to get involved.
Increase awareness of the 30 mph speed limit
Buy bin stickers (pictured above) to raise speed awareness.
Whilst the bins signs may only be visible on Monday/Tuesdays, the theory is that irregular signage makes drivers take more notice.
